My current works explore the use of enhanced texture in bold semi abstractions. Gouache is my preferred medium for its vibrancy.

Topics range from domestic interiors/still lives to semi abstract landscapes inspired by walking and exploring in Derbyshire which holds myriad memories for me.

Previous works have included a series on the Northern Line by day and night using bold brush marks to convey the visual shock of trains hurtling past overground, and a series echoing the Portuguese 'saudadae' tradition of nostalgic longing for lost places and people. These paintings often carry the emotional charge of childhood memories.

My work has been exhibited  in galleries, shows and festivals in London, Derbyshire, Hertfordshire  and Norfolk including The Barnet Open at the artsdepot (2007 and 2012) and the Medical Art Society's annual exhibitions at The Royal Society of Medicine (from 2011 to  2017) and the North London Artists Network exhibitions at the Camden Image Gallery in 2014 and The Strand Gallery in 2015. My painting of Dovedale was selected for the Derbyshire Open Exhibition at the Buxton Gallery in 2015.  During 2016 I was a guest arttist at the Dovedale Arts Festival. a popular weekend celebration of art, music and literature.

I established the Avondale Gallery in 2013 as a veune to make fine art more accessible in a relaxed envirnoment. The gallery provides a showcase for  my own current paintings (by appointment) and a venue to hold joint and solo exhibitions with selected artists. To date there have been eight successful exhibitions , including several which have raised substantial sums for chariites such as Medicins Sans Frontieres. During June 2017 I  organised a local midsummer festival to include an exhibition of my flower and garden paintings which raised funds for our local hospice. Details of forthcoming Avondale Gallery Exhibtions are available at
